ISRAEL UNDER ATTACK: Red alerts reach Tel Aviv; Schools closed; Jihad declares war; & Syria hit

Jihad declares war after assassination:

Israel came under heavy rocket fire Tuesday morning after the Air Force bombed a building in the Gaza Strip in a targeted strike which killed Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) Leader Bahaa Abu Al-Ata. Rocket sirens sounded in Israeli towns surrounding the Gaza Strip including Ashkelon, Ashdod and Gedera as two different barrages of rockets slammed into Israel.

The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Israel was responsible for the airstrike which killed Al-Ata, who it described as a “senior Islamic Jihad commander” who master-minded “numerous terrorist attacks and rocket attacks against the State of Israel in recent months and who intended to immediately carry out further attacks.” CLICK on here to read more.

Syria attacked:

Palestinian Islamic Jihad said that the home of one of its officials was hit in Damascus early Tuesday. The announcement arrived right after after PIJ leader Bahaa Abu Al-Ata was assassinated by the Israeli Defense Forces in Gaza.

Two people are dead and six others injured after a building was targeted near the Lebanese Embassy in western Mezzeh, Damascus, according to Syrian state news agency SANA. CLICK on here to read more.

Red alerts rock Israel:

Red alerts have been rocking the country following the assassination of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) Leader Bahaa Abu Al-Ata in Gaza early Tuesday morning. The operation was approved by the IDF Chief-of-Staff, Shin Bet, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the security cabinet. CLICK on here to read more.

Schools closed:

Schools are closed in the south and the central Gush Dan region due to the sensitive security situation, according to Israel’s Home Front Command. All non-essential work is also cancelled.

This is the first time since Operation Protective Edge in 2014 that the country is on such high alert. CLICK on here to read more.
