( The New IsraelB AppClick on here to install the new IsraelB App on your phones.)

From Jerusalem Bus Map:

HEADS UP: The next round of changes to how you pay your bus fare and load your Rav-Kav are taking effect on Friday, August 24, 2018. These changes, which are mandated by the Ministry of Transportation, are being implemented in Jerusalem on that date and will eventually be implemented nationwide with the intention that transit service will be faster, more reliable, and safer if bus drivers are focused on operating their buses safely and not selling tickets or making change. Please read through this post in its entirety so you know what is coming and how to load your Rav-Kav in accordance with the new procedures.

WHAT IS CHANGING?

As of August 24, you will no longer be able to load a Rav-Kav on board a bus UNLESS you are a senior citizen (see more details below). You MUST have a valid fare on your card BEFORE boarding the bus or you will have to purchase an anonymous Rav-Kav with a single ride on it for 11.90 NIS.

WHERE CAN I LOAD MY RAV-KAV?

You may load your Rav Kav with cash or a credit card by using any of the following options:

* Ticket kiosks located at all Light Rail stations, major bus stops, and other locations throughout the city
* Al-HaKav service centers (list below)
* ATMs that are part of the Casponet network (you will need a valid ATM card in order to activate the machine, but your transaction will not incur bank fees)
* At select Coffix and Maayan2000 locations around the city, as well as other select businesses (list below)
* Using the Rav-Kav Online app with a compatible, NFC equipped Android phone
* On your computer (requires the purchase of a “dongle” for 5 NIS from any of the Al-HaKav Service Centers)

WHAT FARES CAN SENIOR CITIZENS PURCHASE ON BOARD THE BUS?

Senior citizens may purchase a single trip with cash (in order to receive a ma’avar, one must use a Rav-Kav loaded prior to boarding the bus) or load a one day pass on to their Rav-Kav.

You can exchange your card for one with a chip at one of the Al-HaKav service centers (list above)

Bring your Teudat Zehut or your passport.

The new card itself is free. You will also be able to transfer any cash (erach tzabur) or passes that are loaded on your current card to the new one. However, you either need to have not used your card for five days before transfering these items to a new card, OR it may take up to 72 hours for the transfered items to “land” on your new card.
